Competing-for-Talent
Date published: August 5, 2021

I recently read an article focusing on the “war for talent”. Overall, I agreed with it’s assertion that the way organizations think and view talent acquisition and retention has to change. The reality is that open positions have flooded the marketplace and our employees have options. With this in mind, we must ask the question:

How does an organization compete in this new world of talent warfare?

  1. Hire a Talent Expert

Talent Consultants can help you view things from a different perspective. Understanding your team and what motivates them is key to pushing your organization to the next level. Likewise, understanding the role you’re hiring for and how it relates to the talent you’re competing for will give you a leg up on your competition. We’ll dive deeper into the benefits of working with a talent expert in our next blog.

  1. What’s your employer brand?

That’s right. What’s your employer brand? Organizations spend thousands, if not millions, uncovering their brand in order to attract consumers, but what about the brand to attract potential employees? How does your career site look? What are your current employees saying? How do your online reviews look? Take all of these into consideration when developing your employer brand.

  1. What makes you different from your competitors?

Contrary to popular belief, it’s not always about the money. What does your total benefit package look like? Do you offer flex time? Remote work? Does your organization truly value your employees time? Think long and hard about the way your organization shows appreciation.

Lastly, the old days of blanket loyalty to an organization for a paycheck are seemingly over. The tables have turned and now the organization must earn employee loyalty. The competition for talent is fierce and is only getting fiercer by the day. The winning organization may not be the one with the best product, pitch, or price, but the one with the best people.
